CHS Primeland was originally formed in March of 1930 as Lewiston Grain Growers, Inc.. The company operated as an independent cooperative until a merger with Harvest States Cooperatives in 1995, this formed the structure under which the company operates today. Set up as a cooperative operating under the By-laws of Harvest States, CHS Primeland (a cooperative within the larger national cooperative) has a local board of directors which is responsible for protecting the members equity and the assets of the Primeland Cooperatives division while providing local oversight and direction to management. A merger of the two national cooperatives, Harvest States and Cenex, in 1999 created the overall corporate structure and the name of CHS Inc. which the entire company operates under today.
